About Lunden Outdoors
Danish craft tradition. American outdoor living.
The Maker
Theis Lunden trained at the Danish School of Furniture Design, where he spent years mastering the joinery, proportions, and material honesty that define Scandinavian craft. With over fifteen years of professional woodworking behind him, he has built everything from dining tables to cabinetry — each piece rooted in the principle that good design serves the people who use it.
The transition from furniture to structures came naturally. The same dovetail joints that hold a drawer together can brace a wall frame. The same eye for proportion that makes a chair comfortable makes a garden shed feel like a room you want to spend time in. Based in the greater New York area, Theis now brings that furniture-maker's precision to outdoor structures built for American properties and American weather.
"I build structures the way I build furniture — with joints that will outlast us both."
— Theis Lunden
Our Philosophy
Danish Design Principles
Form follows function. Every line, angle, and material choice serves a purpose. We don't add ornamentation — we refine proportions until the structure itself is beautiful.
Master Craftsmanship
Traditional joinery, no shortcuts. Mortise-and-tenon joints, hand-cut dovetails, and precision-fit panels — the same techniques used in fine furniture, scaled to architecture.
Built for Generations
We choose materials that age gracefully — cedar that silvers in sunlight, oak that deepens with the years. A Lunden structure isn't just built to last, it's built to look better with time.
The Workshop
Our workshop is where Danish design meets American building. Equipped with both traditional hand tools and modern precision machinery, it's set up for the kind of work that sits between fine furniture and construction — panel saws alongside hand planes, CNC routing alongside hand-cut joinery.
Every structure is prefabricated here in controlled conditions. That means tighter tolerances, cleaner finishes, and faster on-site assembly. Components are test-fitted, numbered, and finished before they ever leave the shop floor. By the time we arrive at your property, we already know everything fits.
Why Outdoors?
In Denmark, there's a word — friluftsliv — that translates roughly to "open-air living." It's the idea that time spent outdoors isn't recreation but a fundamental part of a good life. A well-designed outdoor structure isn't a luxury — it's an extension of how you live.
The leap from furniture to outdoor structures is smaller than it seems. The same obsession with wood grain and finish that elevates a tabletop transforms a simple garden shed into something worth looking at every day. The same understanding of how people move through a space that makes a dining table work makes a pool cabana feel inviting.
The outdoor structure market is full of mass-produced boxes on one end and overpriced architectural vanity projects on the other. There's a space in between — structures that are genuinely well-designed, honestly built, and priced for people who value quality without pretension. That's where we work.
